We love to walk in the mountains, run in the mountains, climb in the mountains, sleep, eat and dream in the mountains. Deserts too. And beaches, jungles, foothills, flatlands... We know that most of you have myriad passions just like we do, and we're bringing you products from some of our favorite brands to help fuel that fresh-air addiction. Our inventory is always growing and changing, but our consistent aim is to provide equipment that will follow you through all your adventures and perform the way you want it to every time. OR is our go-to for things that matter most: hard and soft shells to protect you from the wind and rain, waterproof stuff sacks to keep things like sleeping bags and dry clothes from elemental abuse, and hats and gloves for those important extremities.

Judging from the response we've had since we brought this line into the store, a lot of you are as excited about Ibex wool as we are. The rumors are true, wool is indeed the all-season wonder fabric, with superior temperature regulation and moisture management in all kinds of conditions - and best of all it's natural! This season we've got some tights and long-sleeve tops that will treat you right whether you're high in the mountains or down in town. And for those ready to brave the mess that is the Northwest winter bike commute, check out our wool jerseys, bike shorts, bibs and knickers. Not to mention arm and knee warmers that really are the bee's knees!

We've known and loved 'em for years, and for good reason. Mountain Safety Research has a knack for combining simplicity and functionality into field-proven products that are downright genius. We're currently stocking a couple of top-notch water filtration systems, as well as wide-mouth hydration bladders.

If Germans have a reputation for being perfectionists, Deuter is living proof. We're pleased to offer a line of small packs which showcase Deuter's mastery of streamlined usability. With just enough features to meet your needs yet without the typical bells-and-whistles overkill, these are also some of the best-carrying packs we've ever used. To top it off we've got hydration systems and some bomber little bike bags so the two-wheeled folk won't feel left out.

MSR HYPERFLOW WATER FILTER

September 2008

Recently we took the new MSR HyperFlow((((TM)))) Microfilter to the hills for a test drive! A new take on the classically reliable, ultra-usable filters we've come to know and love, there is no exaggeration when MSR bills this as their smallest and fastest-flow Microfilter.

Unlike the lever action of the MiniWorks(((R))), the HyperFlow(((TM))) works by extending and compressing the housing in a linear action. Granted it's a little tougher than using a lever, but the flow speed makes up for it in spades at a legitimate 3 liters per minute (yeah, 20 seconds for a full-sized bottle!!). Rubberized ends make it easy to hang onto while pumping, and well-designed proportions mean fingers don't get smashed when the unit is compressed.

True to the MSR design we depend on, the HyperFlow(((TM))) is field maintainable. Rather than an element to scrub, this membrane is cleaned by backflushing with clean water; simply turn the two small check valves backwards and you're ready to purge!

Possibly the best part of the whole deal is the fully compatible output. An included Quick-Connect(((TM))) bottle connecter fits onto wide-mouth bottles; in addition you can attach the hose from your hydration pack straight onto the output; or if you've just got a plastic water bottle from the grocery store you can slide the neck right over the outlet's moulded outer ring for a secure fit. No slop, no spillage, no bottles flopping around.

A broad but flat fabric pre-filter makes a nice upgrade from the usual float-and-foam system, and can be strapped onto a rock or other debris to keep it from drifting up to the surface.

The hollow fiber filter matrix still gets down to .2 microns, however unlike ceramic filters isn't your best bet for removing chemicals/toxins and unpleasant tastes - something to keep in mind when planning your outing - and of course isn't made to protect against viruses. But for a fast and light option to keep those nasty little bacteria, protozoa and parasites at bay, this 7.4-oz filter can't be beat.

And of course there's nothing tastier than stream-fresh agua!

I have some strong opinions about quality and design of the outdoor equipment I use, and as such I am taking my time to hand pick every item in our store. We will only sell products of the highest quality, construction, and design. Period. This takes some time though! So the product is trickling in.
