THE uBRDO COMMUNITY
We have been blessed to have a lot of really cool people surrounding the shop... and that's what it's all about isn't it? Community, friends and family! Well we think so, and this year we are piling even more event and team sponsorship into our quiver, because that's just what we do.
We have three killer teams/clubs that we are sponsoring this year and each has a great perspective and fantastic people involved in their respective organizations that make it all worth while. We also have a pretty full calendar of events we will be supporting this year. Add to this the races we will be at under the uBRDO Team Project banner and you can see we have a pretty full dance card for such a small organization!
Come on out and say hi if you see the tent or the van! We always have a place to sit and relax, and we are always happy to help with any equipment issues or answering any questions!
OUR PEEPS ON THE WING
Good friends of uBRDO, Craig and Jess Aaker are wheeling their way through South East Asia... Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia... Craig and Jess are both experienced travelers and outdoor people, but this is their first bike tour (and what a first tour to tackle!)...
This trip is in three stages: SE Asia by bike, Nepal and Northern India by foot, and then off to Tanzania... We are all jealous but we can live vicariously through their journal and photos!
Amanda calls herself a superhero. While we cannot confirm nor deny this claim, we can say that she is a bicycling free spirit who pedals to her own cadence whether that means pondering existential questions on long rides through the country, performing unexpected endos while attempting to conquer teeter totters in Whistler or cruising topless in Seattle's (in)famous Fremont Solstice parade.
Amanda has a dream that American cities will build infrastructures to allow all people to use bicycling as viable form of daily transportation. She writes about her bicycle adventures - sometimes big, although mostly small - in hopes of inspiring others to get pedaling as well. She always rides wearing enormous sunglasses lest the world discover her true identity.
In 2007 Craiger left Seattle straddling a bike... over the course of the summer he pedaled down the Pacific Coast to the Mexican Border, boxed and shipped his bike and then walked back up the Pacific Crest Trail to the Canadiene border; then pedaled back to Seattle.
The kind of trip that makes us all jealous for it's scope and length, we can now follow along a year later: he is posting a picture and short blurb everyday that corrsponds to that day of his trip last year.
An accomplished thru-hiker, he now has the Appalachian Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail under his belt... his sights are set on the Continental Divide Trail which will complete his goal of the Big Three.
The biggest complaint any of us have with Mitch is that we never know where she is... Australia, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Australia, Iceland, Australia, Croatia... Well she is off again, this time indefinitely traveling around the world.
In March of 2007 we dropped her off at the airport and she's been at it ever since. Starting in Australia, seeing some old friends, making her travel plans and generally chillin' for a few months. When we got word she was on the move it was up through Asia: Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam... then up to Italy and down to Croatia where she visited family and attended language school. An unexpected visit back to the states, and then back to Croatia, up to Ireland, a week traveling up the west coast of Norway by boat... and now she's in Nepal!
She never ceases to amaze us and always manages to make us intensely jealous (we still can't figure out how she does it... although when it comes to savings she is a financial genius!). Sit back and enjoy...
LOCAL CLASS:
YOGA FOR CYCLISTS
We are excited to have a Yoga for Cyclists class starting next week at Soul Ease Holistic Yoga Spa just a few doors down from us! We have talked to a lot of you about Yoga (and know a lot of you are in Yoga classes now) and thought we'd put together a specific class for cyclists (great for runners and nordic skiers too).
Check out our page devoted to the class below!
SPONSORED TEAM:
uBRDO TEAM PROJECT
With a focus on racing cyclocross and endurance mountain bike events, uBRDO Team Project is quite possibly the team having the most fun wherever they go and proving that contrary to popular belief, this doesn't mean sacrificing results.
A new force to be reckoned with, our in-house team may be the only team to routinely have as many beers in the support vehicle as tubes, may have the best looking group of ladies racing of any team in the PNW, and always has an open tent at the races for anyone who needs some support, is looking for some bad jokes or just wants to hang out!
SPONSORED CLUB:
NATIVE PLANET OUTDOOR CLUB
Native Planet is a group of outdoor and bike people like ourselves that ride to raise awareness and funds to help support indigenous cultures around the globe. Functioning as a club and not focusing specifically on racing they have open arms to all levels of bike lover, from the casual weekend warrior to the elite. They host weekly rides out of the area and are also instrumental in the hosting of the Native Planet Classic each year.
